While many of us have heard numerous messages from John’s Gospel, Campbell takes Jesus’ “I AM” sayings and opens them up in fresh new ways.

The seven chapters of Campbell’s book focus on each one of the “I AM” sayings: bread, light, door, shepherd, resurrection, way, and vine.  Campbell provides his thoughts and caused me to think about these passages in new ways.  He takes each saying and points the reader to other passages of Scripture to show not only the foreshadowing of the coming Christ in the Old Testament but the revealing of Christ Himself in His parables and miracles.  Campbell continues his explanation by making the passages personal and showing the reader how it applies to our lives today.

The short book is a great resource for a small group study in that Campbell closes each chapter with questions for further discussion.  While being theologically sound and packed with numerous Scriptural support it is written in a style that is non-intimidating and easy to follow.  Being raised in the rural South, the highest praise I can give this book is to say “That will preach.”

  1. Todd,

Thanks for being a part of the I Am book review blog tour. This was the first I’d heard the expression, “That will preach.” I’m going to have to use that in one of my book reviews some day. 😉
